Manu Reserved Zone 7D/6N

The Manu is a National Park that covers the high mountains, mesophilic mountain forest and the low jungle. The Cultural Zone of Manu has a cloud forest that is currently one of the areas of the world where wildlife still live in abundance in its natural habitat where there are 8,000 species of plants, more than 400 species of birds and 10 species of mammals have been identified in the cloud forest of Manu. This area also offers a walk in the Cocha Machuwasi in a raft of topa, a tree used by the old settlers to move in the Madre de Dios high river, a walk to the forest of CEIBA or giant trees and finally observe the activity of the Parrots and Macaws.

Itinerary

Day 1 Cusco – Forest Of Clouds – Erika Lodge

Departure from the city of Cusco very early in one of our vehicles. We will cross interesting inter-Andean valleys and picturesque rural communities. We continue through the Cloud Forest, an area very rich in endemic species such as the Spectacled Bear and Cock of the Rocks, orchids, bromeliads, ferns, etc. continue to the town of Pilcopata *, then to the port of Atalaya, located on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River, 700 meters from where we will start the descent by boat to observe the enormous diversity of existing bird species, such as herons, vultures, cormorants, etc. until we reach our Private Reserve “Erika”. We will walk through the interesting trails of this transitional point between high jungle and low jungle where the guide will look for, show and explain the interesting diversity of wildlife in the surroundings. Overnight at the hostel. A night walk will be scheduled to observe insects and amphibians.

* 1 Optional free – Canoeing: From Pilcopata we will do 1 and a half hours of canoeing (classes I and II) through the rivers Koñeq / or Alto Madre de Dios. You will enjoy the landscape, you will swim in its refreshing waters.

* 2 Optional free – Canopy tour: Our clients of Erika Lodge go from tree to tree and their aerial platforms using harnesses in horizontal cables with a system of lanes with which they glide at great speed on the treetops of this fabulous Amazon jungle until it is rappelled down from 15 meters high.

Day 2 Erika Lodge – Aguas Calientes – Boca Manu

In our boat we go to the Collpa, a wall of the river where the different species of parrots such as the blue-headed parrot, white-eyed parrot and possibly the Maracano macaw, among others go down each morning to extract clay necessary for their dietary balance. At the end of this activity we return to our hostel Erika for breakfast, pack and again in our boat we will navigate the Alto Madre de Dios river to the pools of Aguas Calientes surrounded by our beautiful jungle. After relaxing in the water and a refreshing cold lunch, we continue to the town of Boca Manu. In this tour we have the opportunity to observe birds such as stingrays, herons, several species of Kingfisher, swallows and flycatchers.

Day 3. – Boca Manu – Reserved Zone / Cocha Salvador

At dawn, we will make another brief stop at the Limonal Surveillance Post, we will register in the Guestbook to control entry into the Reserved Zone. We will embark on a journey along the Manu River leaving all traces of civilization towards the heart of the Reserved Zone for approximately 4 hours to Cocha Salvador, where we will spend the next two nights in our safari camp. During this journey you will be able to see many species of birds such as macaws, herons, pink rosette and great opportunities to see capybaras, alligators, river turtles, monkeys, with luck a feline that often sunbathe on the beaches or feeding on the surrounding trees. In the afternoon we dedicate our time to walk in search of wildlife in this pristine jungle.

Day 4 – Reserved Zone / Cocha Salvador

We probably wake up the howler monkey declaring its territory. Before breakfast we will have a morning walk since the temperature at this time is pleasant and makes it frequent to find animals in search of food. We will explore Cocha Salvador using the catamaran and try to see the Giant Otters, an endangered species that can be seen fishing, playing or swimming, the Black Caiman, the Hoatzin, interesting flora from its surroundings. We will visit Cocha Otorongo and its observation tower strategically located 15 meters away to appreciate the landscape of the surrounding primary forest and greater possibilities to see the resident otter family, as well as observe birds that inhabit the canopies. Possibility to do a short night walk for the search of the American Toad, bugle frogs, tree frogs and a lot of colorful and interesting insects.

Day 5 – Reserved Zone / Cocha Salvador – Boca Manu

This day we will get up again early to make walks around our camp and Cocha Salvador. We will be surprised with the giant Ceibas, colorful butterflies and probably the curious Monkeys squirrels, capuchins and Choros. After breakfast, we pack and board our boat that takes us slowly down the river Manu to continue the experience of probably observing sajinos, alligators, turtles, birds. We will arrive at sunset at Boca Manu. Overnight at the hostel.

Day 6 – Boca Manu – Erika Lodge

This day we will cross the river Alto Madre de Dios current against, always observing the beautiful landscape of our Amazon rainforest and the enormous diversity of birds. At the end of the afternoon, you will arrive at the Erika Private Reserve where you will rest comfortably in our facilities and we will spend this last night, surrounded by the magic of sounds.

Day 7 – Erika Lodge – Cusco

Getting up very early we will continue crossing the river towards the port of Atalaya and then take the bus back to the city of Cusco arriving at this one at night.
