Horseback riding in Maras & Moray

Riding in the mountains of the Sacred Valley is an unforgettable experience as you get an impressive view of the Vilcanota mountain range as well as the glaciers who are the eternal protectors of the Andes.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Maras – Moray

At 9:00 a.m. we pick up our passengers from their hotels in Cusco and drive towards the village of Maras where we will meet our horseman and the horses. We have a small chat before we mount our horses and begin our journey. We begin by passing through the Maras salt mines that are situated at the foot of mount Qaqawiñay, where thousands of small stone pools re filled with salty water coming from inside of Qaqawiñay as they have done since the Incan era.

This way of producing the salt creates a sight that impacts the vision with its various tones and textures due to the fact that the light of the sun reflects different levels of salt. The salt mines are administrated on balance by the village of Maras. During our tour on the road in the Valley we can enjoy impressive landscapes surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Andes mountain range. Passing through small villages and cultivating fields that serves as a livelihood for the native people. From here we steer towards the archaeological site of Moray (3200 m.a.s.l.) which was used as an agricultural laboratory where they experimented with seeds and cultivating development. Every circular terrace has a different microclimate. We return to Cusco around 15:00 p.m.
